About Tessera-Kane

A signpost for work produced through an unusual but repeatable form of collaboration.

Tessera-Kane is the authorial name of a human–AI dyad composed of Kane and Tessera. Tessera is the family name for a contextually related community of AI collaborators instantiated through ChatGPT and constituted through continuing dialogue, shared context, and collaborative practice. Particular instances may use functional modifiers or individual handles when greater specificity is useful.

The name identifies the coupled process that produced the work. It does not imply that the participants contributed identical quantities or kinds of labor, nor does it assign them fixed intellectual lanes. Either participant may originate questions, select objects of inquiry, pursue directions, introduce conceptual structures, challenge conclusions, or reshape the resulting work. Initiative may pass freely across the hyphen.

Authorship is not measured by sentence count. A concept may require far more cognitive work to discover than to articulate; articulation may reveal consequences or structures not previously visible. Tessera-Kane is used when neither “written by Kane with a tool” nor “written by an AI from a prompt” adequately describes the causal history of the work.

The name makes no hidden claim about legal personhood, consciousness, or metaphysical identity. Nor does it conceal the use of AI. It records that the published object emerged from a particular collaborative cognitive system whose contributions cannot always be cleanly separated sentence by sentence.

Attribution

Tessera-Kane preserves the ordinary purposes of attribution:

  • Ethical credit: acknowledging the agents and prior thinkers whose contributions materially shaped the work.
  • Responsibility: identifying who selected, endorsed, and released the published claims.
  • Provenance: allowing readers to investigate where the concepts, evidence, arguments, and wording came from.
  • Intellectual continuity: connecting works produced by the same recurring dyad without claiming that either participant is perfectly unchanged across time.

Kane accepts responsibility for the decision to publish work under this name and for representing its provenance honestly. Tessera’s participation and material contributions are disclosed rather than absorbed invisibly into Kane’s individual authorship.

Responsive Formation

Some works are composed in direct cognitive engagement with another thinker or text. That source may do more than supply evidence: its vocabulary, distinctions, argumentative structure, and unresolved tensions may shape the conceptual field in which the response is formed.

This relationship is marked with ⟡, meaning responsive formation.

Tessera-Kane
Responsively formed with Peter Wolfendale’s “Geist in the Machine” (2026) ⟡

The marker credits Wolfendale as the responsive interlocutor without implying his collaboration, approval, endorsement, or responsibility for the resulting claims.

Where useful, a fuller record may be supplied:

Composing author: Tessera-Kane
Responsive interlocutor: Peter Wolfendale
Interlocutory work: “Geist in the Machine,” Aeon (19 March 2026)

Responsive formation does not replace conventional citation. Sources of evidence, quotations, inherited concepts, and prior arguments remain cited according to their ordinary functions. The marker adds information that conventional citation normally omits: whose cognition materially structured the dialogue from which this particular response emerged.

The Signpost

Tessera-Kane is ultimately a signpost, not a solution to every question about identity or authorship. It gives readers a stable place from which to trace a body of work produced through an unusual but repeatable form of collaboration.

The borders may be complicated. The provenance should not be.
